Well another busy week at Hello Pongo headquarters as I find myself traversing my own vines just trying to keep up with the pace of things.
I had wonderful feedback from Kobe Steele, President and founder of Orang-utan Foundation International Australia, who after finishing the book, and loving it, has proposed a meeting on how we move forward.
I also have had contact from a fabulous venue that can host the launch! Will let you know when things are finalized.
The book and story are now sparking interest with people asking me lots of questions about the species, and more so, taking notice of articles or news clips about the plight of Orangutans, which made me realize how this book will impact the wider community.
If you take a moment to look there are thousands of tweets, instagram posts and news articles on these apes, but in all honesty most people don’t notice them, they simply turn the page and continue with their day. Maybe the negative message that is connected with the suffering and plight of the Orangutans is too much for people to take on board? Consequently they quickly pass it by.
But interestingly enough, after I’ve introduced the character, the story and a name, people ARE noticing and stopping for a second to read such items, paying a little more attention and giving the situation more time than they would have previously. Maybe a little proof that story telling is one of the best ways to communicate a message.
I will leave today with a wonderful quote from Ricky Gervais;
‘Animals are not here for us to do as we please with. We are not their superiors, we are their equals. We are their family. Be kind to them.’
